We at Voices For Freedom are calling for judicial compassion in the case of Harjinder Singh, a truck driver who , if convicted, could face up to 45 years in prison- 15 years for each count of vehicular homicide. The charges stem from a tragic accident on August 12, 2025, on the Florida Turnpike, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals after his semi-truck made a U-turn that was allegedly illegal.
We believe this case is not just about one individual, but about the livelihoods and future of the more than 150,000 Punjabi-origin commercial truck drivers who are vital to a nation’s economy.
This isn’t just about one man. It’s about the entire community of hardworking drivers who are the backbone of America’s supply chain. We believe the distinction between a tragic accident and a criminal act with malicious intent is a cornerstone of our justice system. Punishing an accident as if it were a premeditated crime sends a chilling message to every driver on the road.
The outcome of this case will set a crucial precedent, signaling to our community whether drivers can expect a fair and compassionate application of the law, or face extreme penalties for unintentional tragedies.
We stand in solidarity with the family and supporters of Harjinder Singh, and we will continue to advocate for a just and humane resolution that does not unfairly penalize an entire community for a single, devastating accident.
