New York, 9/21/2025 : Voices For Freedom (VFF) today expressed a hopeful outlook regarding the six-day executive capacity-building program on human rights, organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The program, set to empower senior-level functionaries of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) from the Global South, is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from September 22 to 27, 2025. It represents a critical opportunity for genuine progress in human rights advocacy.
Voices For Freedom is hopeful that this program will not be merely a formality, but a platform for a genuine discussion about human rights concerns that are pressing in many parts of the world. The goal of empowering NHRIs must be a top priority. For NHRIs to be effective, they must be given the tools and autonomy to act decisively on behalf of their citizens, free from political influence.
The program’s focus on mutual learning and collaboration is particularly promising. VFF hopes that the exchange of ideas among the representatives from different participating countries will lead to a deeper, more robust commitment to human rights principles and the establishment of universally applicable standards of protection. By providing insights into various dimensions of human rights, the NHRC of India has the chance to set a powerful example of how a nation’s human rights body can serve its people.
Voices For Freedom looks forward to the positive outcomes of this capacity-building program, with the hope that the strengthened NHRIs will become powerful advocates for human rights, championing individual liberties and holding governments accountable.
