Voices for Freedom (VFF), an organization dedicated to upholding fundamental human rights and freedoms, expresses its grave concern and strong condemnation regarding the multiple bomb threats recently received by the revered Golden Temple in Amritsar. These malicious threats, that commenced in July 14, 2025, targeting one of Sikhism’s holiest shrines and a symbol of peace and universal brotherhood, are an abhorrent act designed to sow fear and discord.

Over the past few days, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has reported several email threats, including claims of RDX being planted at the Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and the community kitchen (Langar Hall). Such threats against a sacred place that welcomes millions of devotees and visitors from all faiths daily are not merely attacks on a religious site but an assault on peace, faith, and humanity itself.

VFF maintains that the repeated threats against the Golden Temple are deeply disturbing and demand an immediate and robust response from authorities. The Golden Temple stands as a beacon of compassion and selfless service. Any attempt to terrorize its community or disrupt its sanctity is an attack on the very values we champion – freedom of worship, communal harmony, and the right to practice one’s faith without fear.

Voices for Freedom urges the Punjab government and law enforcement agencies to:

  • Conduct a thorough and expedited investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for these cowardly threats.
  • Strengthen security measures at the Golden Temple and other vulnerable religious sites across the region to ensure the safety and peace of mind of all visitors and communities.
  • Implement advanced cybercrime capabilities to swiftly trace the origin of such malicious communications and prevent future incidents.
  • Reassure the public that all necessary steps are being taken to protect their safety and uphold the sanctity of their places of worship.
